Love Is In The Air!

Congratulations all round:

Firstly, to our member, BECKY BAKEWELL, who got engaged to her partner, Craig, on Christmas Eve!

Also to our member, ALISON MATTHEWS, who recently got engaged to her partner, Andy – not only on his birthday but also on the day they got confirmation they’d receive the keys to their new home!

And finally, to our member, OLLIE LEWIN, who married his partner, Lorna, in Australia in January this year.

Huge congratulations to you all!!

Good Luck to James!

JAMES HIGHTON, who was last seen as Franz in Rock of Ages has taken a short break from LAOS to pursue his dreams. James has started a nine-month contract as a singer at the five-star Ladram Bay Holiday Resort in Devon. We wish James the very best of luck. He will be missed.

Great Sadness

It was with great sadness that we heard of the deaths of two ladies who have been such valued members of our society.

BARBARA BATTISON you probably never saw, but when the curtain rose on a scene that brought an appreciative “Aahh!” from the audience, it was probably because of the extra little touches that Barbara’s talent had brought to it. Stage dressings were her forte.

MARJORIE SARSFIELD came to Loughborough from Durham with her husband, Norman, and immediately made her mark on the local amateur theatre scene. She appeared in plays and musicals with several societies, including ours, as well as playing an active role behind the scenes. She served on our committee and for some time acted as Chairman. Her talent and commitment will be greatly missed.

Congratulations!

Congratulations to our member Cazz Lander who swam the English Channel not once but twice this summer! Cazz swam as part of two relay teams to raise money for Aspire; a charity that does amazing work to support people affected by spinal cord injuries. LAOS are very proud of Cazz and pleased we have been able to donate as a society to Aspire to make real changes to peoples’ lives. You can find out more about the great work Aspire do by visiting their website: www.aspire.org.uk and you can sponsor Cazz at www.justgiving.com/cazzlander

Saddened To Hear

The society were saddened to hear of the recent death of Marjorie Speight.  Marjorie joined the society in 1947 and took part in 2 shows alongside her fiance Peter who she married in 1948. The arrival of sons, Alan & Mike, prevented her from appearing in further shows but Marjorie continued as a non-acting member, undertaking various essential roles over the years.  She and her husband were both long standing patrons of LAOS. Marjorie was also very proud to see her granddaughters, Nicola Dexter and Claire Malpas trading the boards.

Deep Sadness

It is with deep sadness that we mourn the recent passing of Janet Partridge. She was a much loved and valued LAOS supporter over many years; more recently her warm and welcoming smile had greeted a great many of our audience members when she was helping us front of house. With her generous nature she could always be relied upon to pop on her glad rags and support the society if asked to help us out. She will be sadly missed and remembered with fondness by many, especially by those of us who were fortunate to know her personally.  Rest in peace Janet.
